ARLINGTON - Rev. Ed Malone, 87, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away after a lifetime devoted to ministry, broadcasting, and religious services.

Born in Vernon, Texas, Ed graduated from The Greenhill School and Southern Methodist University, later earning advanced and honorary degrees. He served as an Interim Minister at several Christian Churches in Fort Worth and as Chaplain of the Texas Masonic Retirement Center.

From 1965-1997, he was Vice President of Radio for the Southern Baptist Convention's Radio and Television Commission, producing national programs broadcast on thousands of stations worldwide. His career in broadcasting began in the 1950's and earned him recognition as a Pioneer in Broadcasting, along with numerous national awards for faith and freedom in media.

An eighth-generation Freemason, Rev. Malone held many distinguished offices in Masonic organizations across Texas, respected author on publications of the Masonic history, and was honored with the 33rd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. He was also knighted in several international chivalric and royal orders, reflecting his lifelong dedication to faith, fraternity, and service. Ed served as the IVth Prince Grand Master of the Sovereign Knightly, Noble and Religious Order of the Crown of Thorns.

A passionate genealogist, he belonged to several heritage societies and authored two family history books. He also recorded more than 2,000 radio interviews with world leaders and entertainers, traveled extensively, and wrote numerous books, articles, and travel features. As a longtime member of the Society of American Travel Writers, he served on its national board and as President in 2006.

Above all, he cherished his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandra Sue Malone; their children, Michael S. Malone and Paula Sue Cisneros; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His beloved eldest daughter, Melissa Pippin, had preceded him in death a year before.

He will be remembered for his leadership, devotion to ministry, and decades of influence in Christian broadcasting, travel writing, genealogy, and the Masonic community.
